A Bachelor of Arts in History program focuses on developing research skills. Students gain practical experience working with primary source materials across various archives. Guided by distinguished faculty, they learn to interpret historical documents within their proper context while producing original research in this evolving discipline. Our alumni pursue diverse career paths in fields ranging from history and education to politics, writing, business, and public service.
History students can specialize in particular geographic regions, historical periods, thematic studies, or public history. The undergraduate program leverages our renowned graduate public history offerings, allowing students to enroll in specialized courses, some featuring internships at museums, archives, or government institutions.
For Distinction honors, students must sustain an exceptional GPA, complete extra coursework, and produce an advanced senior research project that meets distinction standards. Those planning to teach secondary social studies can combine the History B.A. with the Master of Teaching (MT) program, completing both degrees in slightly over five years.
