The Molecular and Cell Biology (MOCB) Ph.D. program merges faculty expertise and research infrastructure from multiple UMBC departments across the Natural and Mathematical Sciences and Engineering colleges, delivering a cutting-edge, interdisciplinary education for advanced molecular and cellular biology studies. This curriculum equips students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to tackle fundamental and applied challenges in life sciences, biomedicine, and bioengineering at molecular and cellular scales. Designed for rigorous, comprehensive training, the MOCB program mandates advanced coursework in biochemistry, genetics, and molecular biology (covering both prokaryotic and eukaryotic systems). Students further specialize through graduate seminars and ongoing involvement in research-focused journal clubs within their chosen concentration area.
