Welcome to the Chemistry Department at the University of Maine. As the sole institution in Maine providing both Ph.D. and M.S. programs in chemistry, we take great pride in our academic offerings. Our faculty and graduate students conduct diverse research across chemistry's many disciplines. With smaller research groups, we foster close collaboration between students and professors. Numerous teams work on interdisciplinary projects, creating chances to partner with engineers, materials scientists, biologists, and education researchers.

Most graduate students join our Ph.D. program, with first-year students typically receiving teaching assistant positions. Research assistantships become available, generally starting in year two. We ensure continuous financial support for all students maintaining satisfactory progress until degree completion.
Inorganic Chemistry

Inorganic chemistry spans the periodic table, covering everything from catalytic processes to renewable energy solutions, and from pharmaceutical compounds to advanced materials. Given inorganic chemistry's crucial role in environmental science, energy research, nanotechnology, and industrial applications, inorganic chemists lead groundbreaking work to uncover connections between electronic configurations and material properties - addressing the core challenge of comprehending molecular-level characteristics.
