The MS and PhD programs in Aquaculture and Aquatic Resources bring together faculty from multiple schools including Food and Agriculture, Marine Sciences, Biology and Ecology, Economics, and Engineering. This interdisciplinary graduate program prepares students for careers in aquaculture industries or advanced academic pursuits. The degrees emphasize biological and physical sciences while offering specialized training in aquatic health, nutrition, production systems, engineering, food technology, social sciences, and economics. Our diverse faculty expertise spans engineering, pathology, physiology, nutrition, seafood processing, and ecological modeling, working with species ranging from cod and salmon to shellfish and seaweed. Students have access to comprehensive research facilities on the Orono campus and at off-site locations like the Aquaculture Research Center, Matthew Highlands Pilot Plant, Center for Cooperative Aquaculture Research, and Downeast Institute's Marine Science Field Station.

Qualification Requirements

M.S. program will be given to applicants holding a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or the equivalent in one of the general areas of biology, animal science, food science, nutrition or engineering.
Applicants are expected to have at least a 3.0 grade-point average. Scores from the Graduate Record Examination aptitude test (GRE) will be evaluated along with undergraduate transcripts and references from persons knowledgeable of the student's academic potential and work ethic.
