This 30-credit program is designed for those passionate about language, linguistics, literature, or culture and contemplating doctoral studies in these areas. Students must exhibit advanced French proficiency in both speaking and writing throughout their studies. The curriculum requires 24 credits of coursework in literature, language, linguistics, and culture, with at least 12 credits at the 500-level. Students may incorporate relevant courses from other departments to align with their academic interests. Additionally, six thesis credit hours are mandatory. After completing their thesis, candidates will defend it before a graduate faculty committee during an oral examination that also covers their coursework. French MA Program Learning Outcomes: Achieve advanced oral communication skills in French. Attain advanced written communication skills in French. Analyze French texts and media critically to demonstrate understanding of historical and contemporary cultural contexts. Conduct ethical research by adhering to professional standards in methodology, argumentation, and citation while engaging with diverse cultural viewpoints.
This specialization caters to individuals focused on literary studies. Students concentrating on French literature must fulfill the standard MA requirements while including four literature courses in their program, three of which must be at the 500-level.
