The University of Maine's graduate programs in literacy education allow students to investigate key aspects of literacy research and teaching alongside nationally renowned faculty. These programs offer hands-on learning experiences through direct work with children and adults at our literacy clinic, classroom interactions, field research, or participation in summer writing workshops to enhance personal writing abilities. Tailored to professional aspirations, our programs can qualify graduates for Maine's literacy education certification. Alumni become powerful literacy champions in their educational institutions and local communities, often assuming leadership roles as expert educators, curriculum developers, literacy specialists, instructional coaches, and school administrators well-versed in contemporary literacy requirements.
For those pursuing advanced studies after their master's, we provide an Ed.S. degree with three specialization options. The customized track merges specialized literacy coursework with complementary disciplines like human development, psychology, linguistics, research methods, and educational leadership.
