The Master of Arts in Reading Program equips literacy educators with essential knowledge and practical skills in the literacy field. Graduates will develop a thorough grasp of literacy's expansive meaning, its sociopolitical foundations, and how to act as catalysts for change within their professional environments. Upon completion, students should possess both the competencies and mindset to champion literacy education effectively. We envision our graduates assuming diverse educational positions across various institutional and multicultural settings. The program fosters thoughtful examination of teaching methods while guiding students to consider the ethical obligations of literacy professionals.

Qualification Requirements

It is strongly recommended that students enrolling in the Master of Arts in Reading program already hold professional teaching certification and have spent at least one year teaching in schools or working with students in a professional capacity. Students who wish to receive certification as Reading Specialists must possess an initial teaching certificate, a masters degree in any field, two years teaching experience, and 30 hours of study as outlined in their study programs prepared with the program coordinator, and a passing score on the Praxis (Reading) Exam.

A minimum TOEFL score of at least 83 on the internet-based test (iBT) or 62 on the paper-based test (pBT).
For IELTS test takers, the minimum required score is 6.5.
