Welcome to the Chemistry Department at the University of Maine. As the sole institution in Maine providing Ph.D. and M.S. programs in chemistry, we take great pride in our academic offerings. Our faculty and graduate students conduct diverse research across chemistry disciplines. With smaller research groups, we foster close collaboration between students and professors. Numerous teams pursue interdisciplinary projects, creating chances to work alongside engineers, materials scientists, biologists, and education researchers.

Most of our graduate students pursue Ph.D. degrees, with all first-year students typically receiving teaching assistant positions. Research assistantships become available, generally starting in year two. We ensure continuous financial support for all students maintaining satisfactory progress until degree completion.
Synthesis
Our synthesis research focuses on developing innovative approaches to construct novel molecules, regulate chemical processes, and uncover fundamental reaction mechanisms.
