Welcome to the Chemistry Department at the University of Maine. As Maine's sole institution offering Ph.D. and M.S. programs in chemistry, we take great pride in our academic offerings. Our faculty and graduate students conduct diverse research across chemistry's many disciplines. With smaller research groups, we foster close collaboration between students and professors. Numerous teams pursue interdisciplinary projects, creating opportunities to work alongside engineers, materials scientists, biologists, and education researchers.

Most graduate students join our Ph.D. program, with first-year students typically receiving teaching assistant positions. Research assistantships become available, generally starting in the second year. We ensure continuous financial support for all students maintaining satisfactory progress toward their degrees.
Inorganic Chemistry
This field spans the periodic table, investigating everything from catalytic processes to renewable energy solutions, and from pharmaceutical compounds to advanced materials. Given inorganic chemistry's critical role in environmental science, energy research, nanomaterials, and industrial applications, inorganic chemists lead groundbreaking work to uncover connections between electronic structure and functionality - addressing the core challenge of comprehending molecular-level properties.
