Welcome to the University of Maine's Chemistry Department. As Maine's sole institution offering both Ph.D. and M.S. programs in chemistry, we take great pride in our academic offerings. Our faculty and graduate students conduct diverse research across chemistry's many fields. With smaller research groups, we foster close collaboration between students and professors. Numerous teams pursue interdisciplinary work, creating chances to partner with experts in engineering, materials science, biology, or education research.

Most graduate students pursue Ph.D. studies, with all first-year students typically receiving teaching assistant positions. Research assistantships become available, generally by the second year. We ensure continuous financial support for all students maintaining satisfactory progress until they complete their degrees.
