The Chemistry Department provides academic programs that culminate in either a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Given chemistry's foundational role across numerous disciplines, the curriculum allows significant flexibility through diverse elective options, enabling students to tailor their studies to personal interests or career aspirations. These customized paths may include preparation for medical school, healthcare professions, technical writing, business management, or computer-related fields. Additional guidance on personalized academic planning can be obtained from the department chair. Students pursuing a B.S. in Chemistry can select between two tracks: the standard B.S. degree or the ACS-certified B.S. degree.
The Non-certified B.S. Degree option is particularly well-suited for pre-med, pre-veterinary, pharmacy, or dual-degree students. This flexible program permits students to select relevant electives that align with medical school requirements, veterinary studies, healthcare professions, environmental testing, or pharmaceutical industry careers. Additionally, students may incorporate business, legal studies, computer science, materials science, or other complementary coursework into their chemistry education.
