A biology major enables students to investigate diverse elements of the natural world. Those pursuing biology can enter professions like biotechnology, environmental science, medicine (both human and veterinary), research and development, teaching, environmental policy, or private consulting. Biology students examine living systems at cellular, tissue, organ, and whole-organism levels. Through varied coursework, they explore evolutionary concepts, biological diversity, and ecological relationships. The program offers numerous research experiences, with biological research seeking to expand understanding of life to address challenges in healthcare, agriculture, and environmental science.
While both B.S. and B.A. degrees deliver solid foundations in biological sciences, the B.S. involves more intensive mathematics, chemistry, and physics coursework and attracts most students. This track equips graduates for healthcare careers, advanced biology studies, or technical roles. The B.A. emphasizes social sciences and humanities, making it ideal for double majors or those seeking global perspectives. B.S. candidates can specialize in Pre-Medical Studies, while both B.A. and B.S. students may focus on Ecology. Both degree paths also allow for a Neuroscience minor.
