A biology major enables students to investigate diverse elements of the natural world. Those who choose this path can prepare for careers in biotechnology, environmental science, medicine (both human and veterinary), research, education, ecological regulation, and private consulting. The curriculum examines living systems at cellular, tissue, organ, and whole-organism levels. Through varied coursework, students explore evolutionary concepts, biological diversity, and organism-environment interactions. The program offers numerous research experiences aimed at expanding our understanding of life to address challenges in healthcare, agriculture, and environmental science.
While both B.S. and B.A. degrees establish a solid foundation in biological sciences, the B.S. incorporates more intensive mathematics, chemistry, and physics coursework, making it the preferred choice for most students. This track specifically prepares graduates for healthcare careers, advanced biology studies, or technical professions. The B.A. option emphasizes social sciences and humanities, ideal for those pursuing dual majors or international studies. Biology B.S. students can specialize in Pre-Medical Studies, while both B.A. and B.S. candidates may focus on Ecology. Additionally, all biology students have the option to minor in Neuroscience.
