The Art and Art History Department at the University of La Verne fosters an interdisciplinary environment where students gain comprehensive knowledge and hands-on experience in visual arts. Both Studio Art and Art History majors build upon core principles encompassing formal techniques, theoretical concepts, and historical contexts through studio courses, lectures, and gallery programs. Art majors complete foundational requirements along with specialized coursework in their chosen focus—Studio Art, Photography, or Design. The university features dynamic creative spaces, including the Harris Art Gallery, Tall Wall Space, sculpture garden, and permanent collection, forming its Art Exhibition and Outreach Programs. Additional exhibition opportunities arise through the Irene Carlson Photography Gallery and West Gallery, which also offer practical gallery experience. These programs enhance artistic and cultural engagement by hosting exhibitions, artist talks, workshops, and academic events that complement the College of Arts and Sciences' curriculum. Since its 1996 opening, the Harris Art Gallery has served as a premier venue for showcasing contemporary works by both emerging and established artists.
