Widely regarded as the earliest engineering specialists, the predecessors of civil engineers emerged when humans constructed the first urban settlements millennia ago. By the 1700s, the formalization of civil engineering as a discipline gave rise to numerous modern comforts we now take for granted. Civil engineering touches every aspect of our routines. Whether it's the water flowing from your taps each day, the transportation networks you traverse, or the power grids energizing your residence, civil engineers enable contemporary living. This field fundamentally serves humanity's needs. Through innovations such as purified water facilities, civil engineers have elevated global living standards. From subterranean passageways to towering high-rises, these professionals conceive, design, build, manage, upkeep, and restore our planet's infrastructure. This MSCE program mandates successful completion of 30 graduate-level credit hours, which includes a three-credit independent research component. The independent study must be guided by a faculty advisor who oversees the project's scope, monitors advancement, and evaluates final outcomes. Most projects will necessitate submitting a comprehensive written report.
