The University of Kentucky boasts a renowned legacy in both academic research and educational excellence. Within this institution, the Political Science Department maintains a time-honored reputation for outstanding scholarly work, impactful teaching, and preparing graduate students to emerge as prominent figures in their field. The graduate curriculum equips students with the skills to excel as both educators and researchers. Our recent graduates have secured prestigious positions at institutions including the University of Rhode Island, University of Nebraska-Kearney, University of South Carolina, and Auburn University. Students can pursue their M.A. degree through two distinct pathways: Plan A mandates completion of 24 credit hours along with a thesis, while Plan B requires 30 credit hours plus comprehensive examinations in three political science fields (or two political science fields plus one external discipline). Both plans stipulate that at least two-thirds of the required credits must be in political science, with half of those being graduate-level exclusive courses. Plan B candidates must additionally fulfill either a foreign language proficiency or analytical skills requirement.
