The Global Philosophical Traditions Certificate equips SJSU undergraduates from varied backgrounds with intermediate expertise in comparative philosophy methods while fostering in-depth exploration of at least two non-Western philosophies and one Western philosophical tradition, thereby expanding perspectives beyond the Anglo-American philosophical framework. This program simultaneously cultivates cross-cultural comprehension skills that are highly sought after in today's international employment landscape.

The Philosophy Undergraduate Advisor oversees the certificate program, evaluating students' academic plans to confirm completion of required coursework: one 3-unit class in comparative philosophical thought (covering continental philosophy and pragmatism) and two 3-unit courses focusing on world philosophies.
