French and Francophone literature and culture have played a pivotal role in shaping European, American, African, and Caribbean intellectual traditions and societies. The Master of Arts in French program immerses students at the crossroads of these cultures by examining their rich literary, linguistic, social, and philosophical heritage. Our primary goal is to equip students for success in an interconnected world where proficiency in foreign languages and cultural understanding are essential skills. French graduate students join a vibrant academic community. Beyond their French studies, M.A. candidates can explore related disciplines including philosophy, history, gender studies, cinema studies, linguistics, English literature, and art history. The Department of Modern and Classical Languages, Literatures and Cultures provides a graduate program culminating in a French M.A. degree, exclusively following Plan B (non-thesis).
