The Philosophy Department provides outstanding graduate programs in ethics, covering areas like metaethics, normative ethical theory, and the historical development of moral philosophy. Students can also explore ethics as it relates to law, public policy, and social-political philosophy. The Ph.D. program aims to equip students with the skills needed to earn their doctorate, conduct independent philosophical research, obtain university or college teaching positions, or enter professions requiring advanced analytical and critical thinking abilities.

Qualification Requirements

The minimum requirements for admission to the graduate program in Philosophy are:

Proof of completion of a B.A., B.S., or M.A.
Evidence of superior skills on the GRE
An overall grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale in all undergraduate work and, an overall GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale in all graduate work (if appilcable). For the Graduate School, the minimum acceptable TOEFL score is 550 (paper-based) 213 (computer-based), or 79 (internet-based). The minimum IELTS score is 6.5
