The health psychology specialization is open to all doctoral candidates in UK's Psychology program, regardless of their laboratory or primary focus area (Clinical, Cognitive Neuroscience, or Developmental, Social, and Health). Important: DSH-area students aren't obligated to pursue this concentration, and those choosing this path needn't be in the DSH area.

Health psychology examines the dynamic relationships between psychological factors, behavior, and physical wellbeing. This field encompasses diverse subjects such as: promoting and modifying health behaviors, psychophysiological processes, neuroendocrine and immune system interactions, interdisciplinary treatment approaches in healthcare, and coping with chronic illnesses. Professionals in this field frequently conduct clinical and scholarly research while serving as vital contributors to healthcare teams across medical facilities and rehabilitation centers, including VA hospitals.

Qualification Requirements

For the Graduate School, the minimum acceptable TOEFL score is 550 (paper-based) 213 (computer-based), or 79 (internet-based). The minimum IELTS score is 6.5

An overall grade point average of 2.75 on undergraduate work and 3.00 on all graduate work is required by the Graduate School. Students seeking admission to the Graduate School must have obtained a baccalaureate degree, prior to the start of the term for which s/he is admitted, from a fully accredited U.S. institution of higher learning or from a recognized foreign institution. Many graduate programs also require letters of recommendation
