Syracuse University's social psychology training program, founded in 1924 by Floyd Henry Allport (1890-1978), holds the distinction of being the world's first such program. Maintaining Dr. Allport's original vision, the program continues to emphasize research as the cornerstone of social psychology education.
Designed for students holding either a bachelor's in psychology or a graduate degree in related disciplines, the Syracuse social psychology Ph.D. program requires 90 credit hours. This includes 15 credits in social psychology theory, 9 credits in research methods, 6 statistics credits, 9 credits in other psychology courses, plus 6 thesis and 18 dissertation credits. Beyond coursework, students engage in ongoing research collaborations with faculty throughout their graduate studies.
