The Master of Fine Arts in English with a specialization in nonfiction writing (focusing on creative nonfiction) is provided by the Nonfiction Writing Program, among the select few nationwide offering comprehensive graduate-level nonfiction courses. Participants will:
cultivate a shared knowledge and respect for nonfiction's historical development and diverse traditions, encompassing genres like essays, lyric essays, memoirs, journalism, and innovative forms,
examine and apply various storytelling techniques, writing styles, and methods for stylistic evaluation through workshop-based learning,
acquire expertise in essential research methodologies to support advanced nonfiction practice, including key theoretical frameworks, while participating in intensive literary discussions that investigate emerging nonfiction domains, such as digital writing platforms and multimedia formats,

Three letters of recommendation. You will be asked to provide the contact information of your recommenders on your Profile. The recommender will then receive an email from the Office of Admissions instructing them on how to upload a recommendation letter. Letters should be written by persons familiar enough with your intellectual attainments to evaluate your potential as a graduate student in English (preferably instructors of your college English courses or professionals familiar with your writing abilities and work habits). Letters of Recommendation may be submitted through a dossier service (such as Interfolio), please inform the service to submit the letters via email to [email protected].
A brief statement of purpose (no more than 500 words) explaining your reasons for choosing this degree program.
