Physics and astronomy graduate programs offer personalized education paths. While the department doesn't provide a dedicated astronomy PhD, students can obtain a physics doctorate with an astronomy specialization and related dissertation. New graduate students receive a faculty mentor to help design their academic plan and provide ongoing guidance. Graduates will:
master core concepts applicable across multiple disciplines while acquiring technical vocabulary, analytical abilities, and professional communication skills,
study and apply advanced mathematical frameworks relevant to physical sciences,
gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge research instruments and technologies,
cultivate innovative thinking and effective dissemination of scientific breakthroughs,
develop expertise in experimental methodologies, from data collection to interpreting results within theoretical contexts, and
acquire proficiency in computational analysis and modern data handling techniques.
