The Human Rights Certificate program aims to expand your knowledge of human rights while incorporating diverse academic fields to address human rights challenges. These fundamental rights uphold every person's intrinsic worth, advocating for and safeguarding this dignity irrespective of birth circumstances, skin color, cultural background, gender identity, national origin, ethnicity, faith, sexual preference, or any other characteristic.

As a University of Iowa human rights scholar, you'll develop skills to analyze social issues thoughtfully and create responses to human rights challenges across various domains including youth protection, civic leadership, environmental sustainability, learning access, healthcare, food insecurity and economic hardship, migration, rights of women and marginalized communities, economic progress, and large-scale conflicts.

Qualification Requirements

Completion of academic upper secondary school (generally a total of 12-13 years of primary and secondary education). A corresponding secondary school diploma or leaving certificate. Above-average grades in a secondary school program that is university-preparatory in nature.
SAT or ACT scores are not required of international applicants who completed secondary school outside the United States, however, SAT or ACT scores are required of first-year applicants who wish to be considered for academic and athletic scholarships.
TOEFL iBT - 80 (no part score under 17). IELTS - 6.5 (no part score under 6.0)
