The Human Rights concentration provides students with knowledge of the legal frameworks, standards, and organizations that shape modern human rights legislation, alongside the social campaigns, cultural expressions, and creative works that continually redefine human rights principles. Recently, human rights aspects have become increasingly central to pressing global, national, and local challenges such as environmental degradation, wealth disparity, and intergroup tensions. By pursuing a Human Rights major, students gain deeper insight into these multifaceted problems while acquiring tools to devise innovative solutions for global improvement. Beyond examining the diverse historical contexts, philosophies, and applications of human rights through rigorous study, Human Rights majors will also cultivate focused methodological and subject-specific competencies in a complementary academic field.
