Classical Languages, such as Greek and Latin, explore the written works and societies of the Mediterranean region from roughly 2000 BCE to 600 CE. Pursuing classics enables learners to grasp how ancient civilizations influence modern and future societies. Graduates in this field often enter professions like medicine, law, or education, or continue their studies in disciplines like Library Science, Museum Studies, Religious Studies, History, Archaeology, and Business. At Iowa, Classical Languages students benefit from a liberal arts education within a vibrant research university setting. They can collaborate closely with the department's faculty, who excel in both teaching and research.
