The master's program offers focused training for advanced social work professionals. Students complete foundational and specialized courses covering practice techniques with individuals, families, and organizations, along with studies in policy, research, human behavior, and social environments. The program mandates a two-semester field placement (minimum 900 hours) at a social service agency. Earning an M.S.W. requires 64-72 graduate credit hours, with exact requirements tailored to each student's academic background and experience. Full-time students can finish the curriculum in 16 to 24 months. Available for both full- and part-time study at the Urbana-Champaign campus, the MSW Campus Program welcomes both Advanced Standing candidates and those with non-social work bachelor's degrees. Qualified students who earned a BSW within the last seven years can enter our Advanced Standing Campus Program, which skips foundational courses and jumps straight into advanced studies. This accelerated option is available in both Campus and Outreach Programs.
