The Ph.D. program in Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) examines the thriving and adaptability of diverse individuals and family units across various life circumstances. Our interdisciplinary doctoral program integrates perspectives from anthropology, economics, education, family science, developmental psychology, and sociology. We equally emphasize qualitative, quantitative, and blended research approaches. Our department provides a single Ph.D. specialization in Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS), equipping students to critically examine and effectively respond to modern societal challenges affecting varied populations. This program targets future scholars, instructors, policy makers, and practitioners who create, assess, and administer initiatives supporting individuals and communities. HDFS alumni typically enter academic positions, while others follow research or policy-oriented paths beyond university settings.
