The MSFE is an intensive 48-credit, three-semester residential program that explores finance, economics, numerical methods, stochastic calculus, and computer programming, including a summer internship option. Graduation requires completing twelve sequential 4-credit graduate courses. Financial Engineering arose from the increasing sophistication needed to address complex business challenges, blending core economic principles, financial theories, advanced mathematics, computational tools, and programming skills. With both theoretical depth and real-world relevance, this dynamic discipline has thrived in recent decades—evidenced by multiple Nobel Prizes in economics recognizing foundational Financial Engineering research. Contemporary studies in finance, operations research, and mathematics focus on novel financial products, risk evaluation, quantification, and optimization strategies. The MSFE curriculum equips students with cutting-edge financial market methodologies, enabling them to tackle practical projects before graduation.
