The department provides graduate programs culminating in a Master of Science in Mathematics, Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics, Master of Science in Applied Mathematics, and Master of Science in Mathematics Education. This curriculum equips students for actuarial science professions by covering content found on fundamental actuarial certification exams. Applicants must have completed calculus courses and at least one probability or statistics class. Familiarity with computer programming and basic economics or finance concepts is advantageous. The 32-credit program typically takes 18 months to finish. While financial assistance is generally limited, a select few students—either native English speakers or those meeting international TA language standards—may qualify for teaching assistantships. These positions include full tuition remission (irrespective of residency status), partial fee reduction, and a living stipend adequate for Champaign-Urbana expenses. Enrollment is available for both Fall and Spring semesters.
