The updated French Linguistics program will be gradually implemented between 2013 and 2015 to foster cross-disciplinary partnerships and address worldwide cultural challenges. This French Linguistics specialization maintains its foundation in French and Romance language studies through collaboration with the Linguistics Department and the Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese Department. Furthermore, expanding on the Department's emphasis on French and francophone cultures, literatures, and languages, the curriculum now incorporates substantial cultural and practical linguistic elements. For doctoral candidates pursuing the Ph.D. Concentration in Romance Linguistics, competence in at least one additional Romance language is required. Their academic journey must also encompass studies in French and francophone culture and/or literature, alongside cultural studies and social sciences coursework.
