This dual degree program allows students to earn two distinct, simultaneous qualifications: the Master of Architecture alongside the Master of Urban Planning, provided by the Department of Urban and Regional Planning. Each qualification maintains its own academic oversight with dedicated advisors. Although candidates must fulfill all requirements for both degrees, they don't need to apply and gain admission to both programs at the same time.
Through shared credit recognition, students can finish both degrees—typically requiring two years each—in just three years combined. To graduate with both qualifications, participants must complete a minimum of 86 credit hours, comprising at least 32 hours in Urban Planning courses and 54 hours in Architecture studies, including essential core and capstone courses for each discipline. Following Graduate College regulations, dual degree candidates must spend at least two semesters enrolled in each program. Applicants may choose to apply to both programs together with a single application fee, or they can opt to apply for the MUP after already being enrolled in the M.Arch program.
