Specialization options span diverse areas including Ukrainian, Polish, Czech, Bosnian, Croatian, Serbian, and Bulgarian languages, literatures, and cultures, along with Yiddish studies. Candidates can enhance their linguistic and literary studies with interdisciplinary work in critical theory, comparative literature, philosophy, film and media studies, history, political science, and visual/performing arts. Admission to the Ph.D. program requires an M.A. in Slavic studies or a comparable discipline. Doctoral students develop a curriculum focusing on a primary Slavic literature (from any national literature the department offers), secondary Slavic language proficiency, and a supplementary concentration area.
