A PhD program generally spans at least four years. Students must maintain active on-campus enrollment while fulfilling the degree's coursework requirements. The Musicology Division provides extensive opportunities and resources for exploring both ethnomusicology and historical musicology. This division oversees musicology degrees at multiple levels, including M.M., Ph.D., B.A., and B.M. programs with concentrations in music history and ethnomusicology. Its faculty features experts covering all major eras of Western music as well as musical traditions from diverse global regions such as the United States, Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia, and Australia. Through its connection with the School of Music and collaboration with the Center for World Music, the Division offers students exceptional access to diverse musical experiences, with many performances hosted nearby at the renowned Krannert Center for the Performing Arts.
