The Analytical Chemistry program at Illinois ranks among the nation's top programs, maintaining this prestigious position for more than 75 years. This enduring legacy continuously evolves as faculty and students advance established research fields while pioneering new frontiers. Presently, significant enthusiasm surrounds bioanalytical chemistry and non-biological surface catalysis research. This practical emphasis challenges the common misconception that analytical chemistry solely involves instrument and methodology creation. While innovative tools and techniques frequently emerge from research projects, their development is strategically guided by pressing challenges in fields like biomedicine, catalysis, energy solutions, environmental science, and other critical application areas.
