The ESES program provides a distinctive blend of structured guidance and adaptable options, setting it apart from other University of Illinois programs. Our advisors, who also instruct courses within the major, possess deep familiarity with campus life, academic offerings, student support services, and beyond. They're dedicated to helping you navigate degree requirements while choosing courses that cultivate your abilities and spark your intellectual interests. Students considering graduate studies in any discipline should consult their advisor about additional required coursework early in their academic journey. A Major Plan of Study document must be finalized and filed with the LAS Student Affairs Office by the conclusion of the fifth semester (60-75 credit hours). With advisor approval, study abroad courses can fulfill major or minor requirements. For departmental honors: Students maintaining a minimum 3.3 GPA in all major courses and completing a faculty-supervised independent research project for major credit will be considered for graduation with distinction.
