Students are required to take two courses from these options: Hinduism, Buddhism, Chinese and Japanese Religions, or indigenous American religious traditions, selected from a departmental adviser's approved list. They must also complete two courses from: Judaism, Christianity, Islam, or ancient Near Eastern religious practices, again chosen from the adviser's list. Furthermore, students will designate both a primary and secondary concentration. The primary focus requires at least three courses (nine credits), while the secondary needs two courses (six credits). No single course can fulfill requirements for both primary and secondary concentrations. (Going beyond the minimum three courses for the primary focus is encouraged.) Available study areas include: Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, Philosophy of Religion, Religion in America, or a customized focus approved by the departmental adviser.
