The Master of Science in Chemical Engineering at UIC equips students with in-depth expertise in the field while offering customizable options to tailor the program to individual goals.
Three program structures are available: a traditional two-year track, an accelerated one-year option, and a combined 4+1 pathway enabling current undergraduates to earn both BS and MS degrees within five years.
All program formats cover fundamental chemical engineering topics including fluid mechanics at continuum and molecular scales, thermal and mass transfer phenomena, thermodynamic principles at macro and micro levels, reaction kinetics, and process evaluation. Graduates gain applicable knowledge for diverse sectors like energy systems, extreme-condition materials science, bioprocess engineering, and environmental applications.
The two-year thesis track includes specialized coursework culminating in a faculty-guided research project. This option is particularly valuable for students contemplating future doctoral studies after completing their master's degree.
