The Master of Science in Chemical Engineering at UIC equips students with specialized expertise while offering flexibility to tailor the program to individual goals.
Three program options exist: a traditional two-year track, an accelerated one-year path, and a combined 4+1 option enabling undergraduates to earn both bachelor's and master's degrees within five years.
All program formats cover fundamental chemical engineering principles including fluid dynamics at various scales, thermal and transport phenomena, thermodynamic systems, reaction kinetics, and process evaluation. Graduates apply these competencies across diverse sectors such as energy systems, advanced materials, bioprocessing technologies, and environmental solutions.
Baccalaureate Field All engineering and natural science disciplines. Applicants with undergraduate degrees outside of engineering may be admitted on limited standing. Grade Point Average At least 3.00/4.00 for the final 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of undergraduate study, for the master’s program.
Minimum English Competency Test Score: TOEFL 80, with sub scores of Reading 19, Listening 17, Speaking 20, and Writing 21 (iBT Test); 60, with sub scores of Reading 19, Listening 17, Writing 21 (revised Paper-Delivered Test), OR, IELTS 6.5, with sub scores of 6.0 for all four sub scores, OR, PTE-Academic 54, with sub scores of Reading 51, Listening 47, Speaking 53, and Writing 56.
