The thesis option caters to MS in Bioinformatics students with a passion for research. This path is highly recommended for those considering future PhD studies.
Creating a master's thesis replaces 8 credits of regular classes with an academically rigorous process. Under faculty guidance, students select a research focus, conduct in-depth exploration, and produce a publication-quality paper worthy of conferences or journals.
This research component adds distinction to your graduate experience and strengthens career or PhD applications by showcasing your research abilities.
Thesis students complete 8 credits through BME 598 Master's Thesis Research plus a minimum of 28 coursework credits. A minimum of 12 coursework credits must be 500-level classes (excluding BME 595, BME 596, and BIOE 598). With department approval, limited BME 596 Independent Study credits may apply. No final exam is required.
Applicants must meet the following program requirements: Baccalaureate Field Physical sciences, engineering, computer science, mathematics, or biology. Students from other areas are also encouraged to apply if their backgrounds indicate a reasonable chance of success in the program. Grade Point Average At least 3.00/4.00 for the final 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of undergraduate study.
Minimum English Competency Test Score: TOEFL 80, with sub scores of Reading 19, Listening 17, Speaking 20, and Writing 21 (iBT Test); 60, with sub scores of Reading 19, Listening 17, Writing 21 (revised Paper-Delivered Test), OR, IELTS 6.5, with sub scores of 6.0 for all four sub scores, OR, PTE-Academic 54, with sub scores of Reading 51, Listening 47, Speaking 53, and Writing 56.
