UNO's bioinformatics program is led by distinguished field experts who conduct cutting-edge scientific research with industry partnerships. Students can explore numerous research opportunities through our Bioinformatics and Machine Learning (BML) lab, Bioinformatics and Molecular Modeling (BMM) lab, and a dedicated wet lab at the Research Institute for Children. The Computer Science and Chemistry departments also collaborate, facilitating knowledge sharing through student-led presentations. This interaction gives students hands-on experience in research preparation, presentation delivery, and peer discussions. Current research focuses on machine learning applications, protein structure prediction, and design.
Equip students with comprehensive biological expertise.
Challenge students to create highly optimized algorithms for deriving biological insights from intricate datasets.
Teach students to handle scientific data and utilize database retrieval systems effectively.
Familiarize students with industry-standard tools, frameworks, and libraries.
Involve students in hands-on bioinformatics research projects.
