Civil engineering plunges you into the constructed world. Civil engineers manage the intelligent and sustainable design and development of infrastructure we all recognize: roads, bridges, buildings, airports, sewage systems, and others. They are increasingly focused not just on the physical aspects of our surroundings, but also on the methods: how people inhabit and use built environments, and how we can enhance these for humanity and the planet.
Civil engineering offers numerous career directions, and a UIC education will provide access to them. Undergraduate civil engineering majors might gravitate toward professions in structural engineering (such as creating designs to handle growing natural disaster risks), urban planning, coastal protection, transportation engineering, water-resources management, materials science, environmental engineering, and more.
First-year applicants are currently enrolled in high school or have not attended college since graduation.
