The Lionel Hampton School of Music, nationally accredited, offers this major for aspiring professional performers, composers, and educators. This comprehensive liberal arts program also equips students for diverse careers in business, law, medicine, and beyond. Music majors develop their skills through performance, composition, analysis, and active listening. Through rigorous training, you'll hone your musical abilities while establishing a solid background in humanities and social sciences with coursework in theory, history, and performance. Admission requires an audition.
This degree challenges students to achieve exceptional proficiency in their chosen instrument - including keyboard, brass, percussion, woodwinds, strings (classical guitar included), or voice. Performance degree candidates must audition on their primary instrument. The program mandates two recitals: a 30-minute performance during junior year and a 60-minute senior recital. Most alumni continue their education at the master's level, either at the University of Idaho or other institutions.
