The field of physics has given rise to countless groundbreaking innovations, including computers, the internet, laser systems, and X-ray imaging. Yet our understanding of the fundamental laws governing the physical world remains incomplete.

This program explores the properties and interactions of matter and energy, covering essential topics like classical mechanics, electromagnetism, contemporary physics, quantum theory, and thermodynamics. Students develop skills to tackle challenging scientific problems across diverse fields including healthcare, engineering, renewable energy, and beyond.

Physics students acquire practical expertise by designing and performing experiments with cutting-edge research methods and computational tools. Unique research opportunities are available through the department's NSF-funded Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) initiative.
