The University of Houston Alley Theatre's M.F.A. Professional Actor Training Program offers an intensive three-year curriculum that equips actors for success in top regional theaters and commercial markets nationwide. Through carefully designed coursework and rigorous studio practice, students build the skills needed for our mainstage productions - high-caliber performances that showcase their growing talents. The curriculum continuously evolves to meet industry demands, featuring visits from prominent artistic directors and professionals, while providing audition opportunities that lead to career-launching roles.

Students develop valuable industry relationships through our extensive network of faculty, accomplished alumni, visiting artists, and regular auditions with Shakespeare festivals and regional theaters. The final year takes place at the esteemed Alley Theatre, where participants collaborate with the Resident Acting Company and begin their professional journeys at this nationally recognized LORT venue. This unique blend of studio instruction, varied performance opportunities, and professional connections propels graduates into the theater world unlike any other program in the nation.

Qualification Requirements

All graduate students are required to provide proof of the attainment of a Bachelor's degree before enrolling at the University of Houston.

The minimum TOEFL score required is 79 for the internet-based test.
The minimum TOEFL score for the paper-based (pBT) exam is 550 or higher.
The minimum TOEFL score for the new revised paper-based exam is: Reading 20, Listening 20, and Writing 20.
The minimum IELTS score required is an overall score of a 6.5.
