The Master of Arts in World Cultures and Literatures offers a cutting-edge, cross-disciplinary graduate experience centered on cultural studies while providing specialized study in specific languages and cultures. This WCL program combines linguistic, literary, and cultural exploration with flexible pathways tailored to each student's professional and scholarly goals. The curriculum examines critical themes including modern and postmodern thought, global interconnectedness, colonial histories and their aftermath, cross-border cultural exchanges, urban environments and diaspora communities, and identity formation. The program integrates diverse approaches through literature, cinema, visual arts, media analysis, and gender perspectives. Language-focused students develop advanced linguistic competence, translation expertise, and, depending on their specialization, may receive instruction in applied linguistics and language education methodologies.
