The School Psychology program, accredited by the American Psychological Association and following a scientist-practitioner approach, prepares students to become skilled school psychologists. Graduates learn to conduct applied research while critically analyzing and implementing evidence-based methods, with careful attention to cultural, linguistic, and individual client needs. Diversity awareness is woven throughout the curriculum, particularly valuable given that UH ranks among the nation's most culturally diverse research universities.
Students gain hands-on experience through diverse practicum placements across multiple school districts, as well as specialized clinics in hospitals and community centers throughout Houston. These real-world settings allow trainees to work under supervision with varied populations, conditions, and professionals while progressing through the program. Upon completion, graduates generally qualify for Texas licensure as psychologists, school psychology specialists, and national school psychology certification.
