The Doctor of Philosophy in Civil Engineering program mandates completion of 24 credit hours beyond the Master's Degree. Initially, students enroll as post-MS candidates until successfully passing the Qualifying Examination, after which they attain Ph.D. student status. Upon passing the Candidacy Exam, they advance to Ph.D. Candidate standing. Throughout their studies, participants must conduct innovative research, document their findings in a dissertation, and present their work before an academic committee.
Most Ph.D. students receive financial assistance through teaching or research assistantships. This support package typically includes health insurance coverage and eligibility for reduced, in-state Texas tuition rates. Additionally, qualified students may receive tuition scholarships covering up to nine credit hours per semester.
