The Mathematics Department at the University of Houston provides an outstanding setting for exploring mathematics and its practical uses. With roughly 10,000 students enrolled in math courses every semester, we're the biggest academic unit on campus. Our department serves about 300 undergraduate majors and 80 graduate students, supported by a diverse faculty actively engaged in both research and teaching excellence. Mathematics majors benefit from learning under professors who are leading experts in their disciplines while simultaneously pushing the boundaries of mathematical knowledge through cutting-edge research. A vibrant academic environment is fostered through regular seminars, colloquia, visiting scholars, and numerous extracurricular options for undergraduates. Students can also explore specialized research paths within the mathematics major, with unique degree tracks available in mathematical biology, financial mathematics, and teaching certification - all providing strong foundations for graduate studies or professional careers.
Faculty research and instructional expertise spans multiple areas including applied mathematics, differential geometry, operator theory, differential equations, dynamical systems, artificial intelligence, computational methods, numerical analysis, complex analysis, mathematical biology, fluid dynamics modeling, and other advanced mathematical fields.
