Electrical engineering spans a vast domain, covering nearly every device that relies on electrical power to function. As a student in this field at UH, you will explore a wide array of courses across electrical and electronic systems, and in your final two years, you can specialize in one of six areas: electronics, nanotechnology, power and alternative energy, computers and embedded systems, electromagnetics, and signals, systems, and communication. These specialties involve analyzing and designing systems such as antennas, robotics, power distribution, digital signal processing, semiconductor devices and integrated circuits, analog and digital control systems, communication networks, and more.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES IN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING
Electrical engineers find career prospects in diverse settings, from large corporations to small firms. Nearly all major manufacturing and engineering companies employ electrical engineers. According to a 2022 Payscale.com salary survey, graduates in this field earned an average base salary of $78,570. Our alumni are employed locally and internationally at companies like Halliburton, Schlumberger, Hewlett Packard, CenterPoint Energy, and Burns & McDonnell, as well as in telecommunications, construction, and petrochemical industries.
Applicants should have secondary school or high-school academic records.
